The Creation of Pushpak Viman |
The Pushpak Viman, also known as the flying chariot, was originally created by Vishwakarma, the divine architect, for Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. It was a divine vehicle that could travel at the speed of mind and could expand or shrink according to the number of passengers. |
Acquisition by Ravana |
Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, pleased Lord Brahma with his penance and asked for the Pushpak Viman as a boon. Lord Brahma granted his wish and Ravana used the flying chariot to terrorize the three worlds. |
Use in the Abduction of Sita |
Ravana used the Pushpak Viman to abduct Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, and take her to his kingdom in Lanka. This event triggered the events of the Ramayana, leading to a great war between Rama and Ravana. |
Retrieval by Lord Rama |
After defeating Ravana in the great war, Lord Rama acquired the Pushpak Viman. He used it to return to Ayodhya with his wife Sita, his brother Lakshmana, and the army of monkeys led by Hanuman. |
Return to Lord Brahma |
Upon reaching Ayodhya, Lord Rama respectfully returned the Pushpak Viman to its rightful owner, Lord Brahma. This act of Lord Rama is considered a symbol of his righteousness and respect for others' possessions. |
